I’ve been growing more and more irritated due to his clear and aggressive bias against Christianity and Christians. He made totally false statements or just completely ignored historic fact regarding the many contributions of Christians and the Church to all aspects of knowledge. I’m not wasting any more time on this book. Same thing with churches. The whole universe, same thing. Everything points to God's dwelling place in Heaven, as described in various places in the Bible.

Eden was basically the idealized version of Israel and Jerusalem (God's holy mountain), and all the stuff about the rivers and mountains and stuff in Eden is supposed to point to that. The pattern of OT salvation history is all about going to Israel and leaving Israel, or being driven out. And that's why Joshua ran into the angel with the flaming sword, when he was going into the land.

So yeah, a cosmic Temple thing is not going to describe the actual shape of Earth, or the solar system, or the universe. It's all number and geometry symbolism. And sure enough, most early rabbinical and early Christian texts about Bible numbers and shapes are quick to tell you that it's all about the number symbolism.Bansheehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12594214770417497135noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5074683.post-13896937037210733942018-07-28T21:36:14.233+01:002018-07-28T21:36:14.233+01:00And, of course, he never read the Summa, where Aqu...And, of course, he never read the Summa, where Aquinas talks about two proof of the sphericity of the Earth in the Book 1, Article 1, Reply to Objection 2...JuanPablohttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04883919099275130230noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5074683.post-26762020653230135812018-03-30T05:30:57.064+01:002018-03-30T05:30:57.064+01:00A good analysis of Boorstin's Flat Earth argum...A good analysis of Boorstin's Flat Earth argument.
Thanks Jim.The Rabbihttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16326266051375680796noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5074683.post-87545211253302385252017-08-17T11:12:25.332+01:002017-08-17T11:12:25.332+01:00This comment has been removed by the author.Christine Erikson (aka Justina)https://www.blogger.com/profile/11594093718714798117noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5074683.post-54350329031484684732017-08-08T01:42:22.112+01:002017-08-08T01:42:22.112+01:00Actually I think he was an outspoken conservative....Actually I think he was an outspoken conservative. Not too bad a read, and I was planing on reading "The Discoverers" next, but maybe I shouldn't waste my time. Much of the stuff in "The Creators" is clearly nonsense, especially when he gets to the musicians. I was ready to give up by page 500 when he gushed at length over Wagner. Boorstin seems clearly a lefty progressive and does not hide it very well.bbrownhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02679936591494267078noreply@blogger.com
